Marie Aude Even, Regional technical Specialist, Agronomy of International Fund for Agriculture Development ( IFAD) along with Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, Coordinator South Asia, and Project Leader APART-IRRI visited the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) – Guwhati hub recently.
The introductory meeting was started with a presentation of Baljit Singh, Specialist of ARIAS society followed by a presentation on activities of IRRI by Dr. Kanwar Singh, Resident Consultant. In his presentation, Dr Singh highlighted IRRI’s major achievement till date.
Mr. Bijoy Sankar Goswami from International Potato Center presented major activities conducted during last cropping season. After the introductory meeting, she along with IRRI team visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kamrup. She experienced the live demonstration of different machineries at field.
Dr. Dhiren Kalita, Head and Principal Scientist, KVK briefed the KVK activities and appealed her to support Assam agriculture sector.
The IFAD specialist also interacted with 40 farmers and tried to understand challenges they are facing in the field.
Later on, she also visited rice field at Rani block and interacted with the APART beneficiaries. It can be mentioned the visit of the IFAD specialist was to understand the challenges and opportunities in rice sector of Assam.
