HUGE AGRICULTURAL LAND GRABBED TO SET UP ILLEGAL CPC INDUSTRY

On 4th of December, Sri Bisawjit Roy the general secretary of Koch Rajbongshi Maha Sabha with All koch Rajbongshi Student’s Union (AKRSU) and local residents of Chaprakata Village of Bongaigaon district staged a protest before the Bongaigaon Regional Office of Pollution Control Board Assam against the establishment of polluting calcined petroleume coke industry by M/s North East Calciner Pvt Ltd. at Chaprakata village.
The Koch Rajbongshi Mahasabha made a serious allegation that huge agricultural land is grabbed for setting up the CPC industry. Mr Biswajit Roy said, ” The industry has been given requisite NOC, permission etc by the PCBA by totally ignoring serious polluting potential of the petcoke industry.”
The permission from the village authorities were obtained for steel industry. Huge agricultural land is allocated to establish the CPC industry. The CPC industry is considered as one of the most polluting industry. The Central Government has kept the CPC industry out of various fiscal incentive schemes because of the polluting nature of the Industry.
The government of Assam has taken various steps including the ban of petcoke or raw petroleume coke for a pollution free environment.
Mr. Roy adds,” it is a matter of great concern that how such industry has been allowed to set up in agricultural land and who is behest?”
