ONGC organises Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B R Ambedkar Memorial North East Football Tournament 2019-20 at Sivasagar

The most awaited Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B R Ambedkar Memorial North East Football Tournament 2019-20 was kicked off today i.e. February 05, 2020 at ONGC Playground, Sivasagar. The tournament is organised by ONGC to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B R Ambedkar in association with AISCSTEWA, ONGC, Assam Asset. It aims to promote football in the region and inspire the young generation to indulge in sports

The grand tournament, witnessing the unity of the Northeastern states with the participation of eight teams ONGC XI, Mising Autonomous Council, Dhemaji, Rynith Sports & Cultural Club, Meghalaya, Jorhat Town Club, Jorhat, ASEB Sports Club, Jampuijala Play Centre, Tripura, North Imphal Sporting Association, Imphal and Assam Police Blues was declared open by the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Ceremony Mr. Sanjeev Kakran, Executive Director & Asset Manager, ONGC, Assam Asset.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kakran said that since inception ONGC has always been committed to promote sports. Sharing his passion for football as one of the sports close to his heart, Mr Kakran said that this is a day for him to rejuvenate old memories of his young days as a Footballer. He conveyed his best wishes to all the participating teams, emphasising upon the importance of sportsman spirit and urged everyone to carry forward the message of camaraderie and brotherhood. “Winning is not everything but participation and making an effort to win is”, Mr. Kakran added.

Mr. Sanjay Goel, CGM-Head HR, ONGC, Assam Asset and President, Organising Committee welcomed all the participating teams and conveyed his best wishes to the organising committee of the grand tournament.

Mr. P R Mili, Hony President, CWC, AISCSTEWA, & Vice President, Organising Committee proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by most of the VCC members, Senior ONGCians, representatives from collectives of ONGC and Veteran Players of ONGC.

Mr. Anupam Chetia, Organising Secretary of the tournament thanked ONGC for the initiative and Football Federation of India, Assam Football Association and Sivasagar District Sports Association for their abundant support.

During the inaugural match ONGC XI defeated Mising Autonomous Council, Dhemaji by 4-1 Goal. The grand opening ceremony of one of the biggest football events in the region witnessed a crowning participation of spectators across all age groups.

Worth mentioning that, the Prize Money for the tournament is 1,50,000/- for the champion and 1,00,000/- for the runners.
