Bollywood dialogues through an Assamese pen

Suman Adhikary from Assam writes dialogues for Bollywood Movie Junglee

It’s a matter of pride for Assam that an Assamese guy from Guwahati has written dialogues for a upcoming Bollywood movie directed by one of Hollywood’s most successful directors Chuck Russell. The movie we’re talking about is Vidyut Jammwal’s next ‘Junglee’ which is helmed by Chuck Russell, the director of worldwide hits like ‘The Mask’ and ‘The Scorpion King’. The dialogues of Junglee have been co-written by one of our own, Suman Adhikary. Suman is from Beltola, born and brought up in Guwahati. He’s the eldest son of Mr. Udit Narayan Adhikary and Mrs. Bhabani Adhikary of Jayanagar, Beltola. He did his schooling in Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara post which he went to Delhi University where he studied Economics in Ramjas College. After that he did his post-graduation from MICA, Ahmedabad and joined advertising as a copywriter. Copywriting eventually took him from Delhi to Mumbai, where he was a Creative Director in Mudra. 2 years back he resigned and took a plunge into writing screenplays. Since his school days, he has been in love with cinema. Growing up it gave him a sense of freedom, wonder and imagination. He remembers bunking school to go to the movies all the time. Apsara and Udeshna were his spot. He admits he had lied to his parents quite a few times to watch a new release in those theatres. Once when he had gone for a 8 pm movie in Udeshna in the pretext of computer class, he came home to discover that his parents had reported him missing to the police. He was thrashed quite a lot that night. The movie was Baazigar and he was a true-blue Sharukh Khan fan. So he had to see it on the first weekend itself. He smiles mischievously as he tells us that he never mended his ways even after getting reported to the police.

His earliest memory of a career is fondly remembers asking his father as a 10-year old boy what he needs to do if he wants to make movies. Not having any knowledge about cinema, his father joked that he needs to do graduation. But he never followed it up and kept going with the flow. Suman feels nothing has happened as per his plans, everything has happened according to god’s plan. And he’s grateful for that, because if things had gone his way he would have been teaching Economics in some college in Guwahati. He feels lucky to have gotten his foot in the door of Bollywood. For which he gives all the credit to Akshat Ghildial, who has been his friend, philosopher and guide since his advertising days. Akshat Ghildial has co-written the dialogues of ‘Junglee’ and has written last year’s blockbuster hit ‘Badhai Ho’. After writing ‘Badhai Ho’, Akshat was approached to write the dialogues of ‘Junglee’. Akshat asked Suman if he wants to co-write the dialogues, Suman took the plunge and left advertising to write this. It is a tough and long road, he says and it’s just the beginning. Currently he is writing another screenplay, which is in its final stages.
News24hours wishes him all the very best for his Bollywood journey.
