Guwahati ,26June: The Nepali language movie APPA is a Nepali-language film written and directed by Anmol Gurung and produced by Ruden Sada Lepcha both from Kalimpong, Darjeeling Hills will be released in India across 25 cities and towns in India including Guwahati, Shillong, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Byrnihat and Golaghat in this part of the country.

Moderating the interaction session with team APPA, Nanda Kirati Dewan, National Sectetary (Youth Affairs) Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh as local host opined that it’s for the first time in the history of Nepali cinema industry that a Nepali language movie with English subtitles is being released is multiplexes and Cinema Halls in Assam and also rest of India together. The main characters is being portrayed by most watched superstar Daya Hang Rai who has changed Nepali cinema’s dimensions in international circuit and the popular actor and filmmaker Aruna Karki along side Siddhant Raj Tamang and Allona Kabo Lepcha local talents from Darjeeling Hills.

The idea behind the film is to change the way our society looks at a father-son relationship,” Mr Gurung says addressing a promotional event in Guwahati, who recently became father. He further added that it has been shot in historic Ghoom Railway Station in Darjeeling, while portions of the movie were shots in places like Sandakphu and Kalimpong. Mostly the movie is shot in “Queen of Hills – Darjeeling” and North Bengal at the backdrop of a Gorkha family.

Man of the Moment Daya Hang Rai meanwhile, said he is officially acting in India for the first time and that the story line of the film compelled him to sign it. “I was mesmerized by the story I listened to after Anmol Gurung sent it to me in an audio format, and I did not want to miss an opportunity to work in it. This is my visit to Guwahati and I am loving the city and glad to be in this soil during the Ambubachi Mela in Maa Kamakhyas lap. On the way to the hotel from Airport we tried local Assamese cuisines at an ethnic restaurant and I like the healthy and tasty way it is cooked and served. I throughly enjoyed the cuisines specially the pork. Glad to be accorded warm welcome here at Community Reception & Interaction at Moni Kumar Subba Bhawan with Axomiya Phoolam gamoocha and Jhapi. I wish besides the Nepali speaking crowds the natives too can enjoy the subtitled movie and I tell you it’s inspiring and entertaining.

Appa film distribution Co-ordinator Biraj Dhital Sarma said that this initiative is ours is maiden attempt to explore existing Nepali language movie market in Assam and North East which almost has more than 30 Lakhs population and give them big screen experience. Successful screening of this movie will encourage us to screen best of the best movies from Darjeeling Sikkim and Nepal here in Assam and NE and also screen popular movies of Assam with subtitles or dubbed in those places and exchange art and creativity. We have allready seen and heard fusion music from both sides and it’s so appealing. It will empower regional cinema in a big way but would need support from friends from the media and also from the film critics and reviewers for movie selection. It needs to be mentioned here Gold and Carnival Cinema have agreed to screen it via UFO across all places where the movie can be demanded so movie lovers can explore options to get it screened in their nearest cinema.

The Community Reception & Interaction at Moni Kumar Subba Bhawan was well attended, most of civil society organisations leaders felicitated Dayahang while fans cheered for him during dialogue delivery. Anmol an accomplished singer himself sank lips for Saanjh Parey Pachi number from the movie while the youths present outsang him. Popular singer from Assam with fan base in Nepal one of the finalists of Voice of Nepal Surekha Chetri anchored the session.
