Bokajan, June 29: In a major development, a gang of suspected poachers have been arrested from Purna Lahorijan area along Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong on Friday.

As reported, the gang of four suspected poachers reportedly travelling in a Maruti Alto car which was intercepted for regular check in the interstate police check post at Purna Lahorijan under Dillai Police station. On frisking the vehicle, police have recovered one ’22 calliber rifle with 80 live ammunition, 20 rounds ammunition of 12 bore Rifle, crackers, 3 torch light and several mobile phones from their possession.

Preliminary investigation conducted by Dillai Police suggest poaching as the prime motive behind possession of the seized rifle. The arrested have been identified as Binod Basumatary, Akhta Tesso, Sochet Hom and Akhpa. All are resident of Dimapur and had reportedly came of an hunting spree in Karbi Anglong forest.
